A now recycled myth says that the medieval Assassins were the forerunners of
the Bin Ladens of nowadays. But this not the case. Here are some URL's that
can prove this:
Farhad Daftary, The Assassin Legends: Myths of the Isma'ilis, London
1994 (non vidi), reviewed by Babak Nahid:
http://www.humnet.ucla.edu/humnet/cmrs/publications/comitatus/26/26babak.htm
"Now, finally,
the time has come to recognize, once and for all, that the Assassin
legends are no more than absurd myths: the product of ignorant, hostile
'imagination,' and not deserving of any serious considerations."
Daftary:

And more:

http://www.lib.umich.edu/area/Near.East/rev64.htm

"In sum, mediaeval Europeans learned very little about Islam and
Muslims, and their less informed knowledge of
the Ismailis found expression in a few superficial observations and
erroneous perceptions scattered in Crusader histories and other
occidental sources."
