Thanks John. I agree that it will be interesting to keep an eye on what
develops later, but I'm still inclined to read the reference to Boscovich
here literally.  

Here's more biographical info on Boscovich (and a portrait) from Tim Ware's
website, including a somewhat garbled translation of an excerpt from
