Yes and no, I think. He writes about the origins of his own country later in 
the book. Here he doesn't need to compare the two; that comes later. It's 
enough to write about the origins of Cape Town, isn't it? But then, he could 
be writing about so many places...he does in fact. What is it that links 
them? You've already answered that.
