>I've got no leanings either way as far as U.S. politics goes

A breathtaking statement, giving the steady stream of praise for Bush and
attacks on voices of dissent coming from the U.S.

> As he already appears to be in
>office for the duration, why should Bush need or want to exploit the attacks
>for "political capital"?

He was sorely in need of a means to legitimize his presidency for starters,
given that he took office by questionable means that were beginning to
smell pretty rotten -- I posted an article the other day about the recent
corporate media decision not to publish results of a Florida recount, to
avoid embarrassing the president and reminding us all how he came to power.
His legislative program had hit the skids. Not to mention that Bush being
the butt of jokes in the U.S. and around the world by September10, most of
which centered on the rather dim light shining out of his eyes ("The limits
of my language are the limits of my mind. All I know is what I
have words for." --Ludwig Wittgenstein) -- no more jokes about the
President these days, of course, they've managed to instill the fear of God
in our entertainers, as well as a growing number of journalists employed in
the corporate media, and that doesn't require a CIA plot, just a few
well-timed threats from the President's men and his buddes in the business
establishment.

>The fact that his credibility has
>risen, not just in the U.S. but world-wide,

Yes, he's especially well-loved among Muslims, I hear. A chip off the old
block.
