reactions to Naipauls choice in Germany

here's who Michael Naumann, former "Kulturstaatssekretär" (Head of
Ministry of Culture) and now head of the "Zeit" magazine in Germany
favoured:

"Michael Naumann, ehemaliger Kulturstaatssekretär und Chefredakteur der
"Zeit“ zeigte sich überrascht von der Entscheidung der Schwedischen
Akademie. Naipaul sei zwar "einer der bekanntesten Schriftsteller der
Welt“, er persönlich hätte jedoch einen amerikanischen Autor wie Thomas
Pynchon, Philip Roth oder John Updike für die bessere Wahl gehalten."

ps: i've heard that Naumann is one of the happy few to actually have met
and contact to Pynchon. So, his choice is perhaps not that surprising...
