No, but *you* have managed to overcome the learnt instinct in your
compositions for the list. A significant number of posts deriving from
apparently "separate", though oddly synchronous, posters retain the
convention. Just an observation.

But perhaps Doug does regard his posts here as "business correspondence".
They rarely have anything to do with Pynchon's texts.

There's a long history of impersonation on this list, some of it extremely
nasty. Mostly the personas are pretty transparent and the point of view
behind them plain to see ("Cato" trilling etc). And it would come as no
surprise to learn that "big one" and the "dude" were still trying to create
some sort of false consensus. But the proof is in the posts. If Doug, or
Persona X, or anyone, posts something which is interesting or provocative
enough then it will invariably generate a response. My opinion is that Doug
is very one-eyed and dogmatic, and quite belligerent, and that he retains
very little credibility as a result, which is unfortunate because some of
the causes he endorses are worthwhile ones.

To be honest, I'd much rather be discussing _M&D_. I can't imagine that
anyone relies on the pynchon-list for a balanced outlook on, or reasonable
discussion of, current events. The latter is plainly impossible anyway, and
this is due in large part to Doug/....
