Mullholland Drive (David Lynch) is one hell of a
movie, by the way. See also Waking Life (Richard
Linklater) and Ghost World (Terry Zwigoff). And am
eagerly awaiting Amelie (Jean-Pierre Jeunet), The Fat
Girl (Catherine Breillat; they played head-to-head at
the Chicago Film Festival, but I couldn't go to
either, so ... had to miss Lagaan [Bollywood cricket
musical] and The Iron Ladies [Thai transvestite
basketball film], but they're coming around, so ...),
The Man Who Wasn't There (The Coen Brothers), From
Hell (The Hughes Brothers), The Fellowship of the Ring
(Peter Jackson (!)), Monsters Inc. (Pixar) and The
Royal Tennenbaums (Wes "Rushmore" Anderson--I get
teary-eyed over the trailer alone ...). And Anna
Karina bailed out of her personal appearance at a
screening of a new print of A Band of Outsiders
(Jean-Luc Godard) Wednesday, but it was worth going
for the dance number alone, so ... okay, Pynchon ...
