I´ve read it too. The secret to enjoy it is NOT to think of it as the GR of
the information age as the Independent quotes on the back cover. Again: It´s
not Pynchon meets Gibson, it´s Stephenson buying the books of Pynchon from a
secondhand bookstore. It has some good chapters, though (Not the Epiphyte
Corp things but the chapters where Waterhouse works on encryptings and an
excellent analysis of how clarity of mind is affected by masturbating -using
equations, of course!)
