Thankyou Terrance for sharing. I too wrote on the C19th novel, although the
course had nothing to do with literature. I remember trying to track (some
of) the changes that took place in the novel as a result of the civil war.
It ended up being, for the most part, a far from sophisticated comparison of
that book and Huck Finn. I rather liked Huck Finn and decided it was an
amusing parody (quite savage in places) of its predecessor with no name. I
can't actually remember who it was who credited the little lady with
starting the war. I'd accuse Lincoln (like most political leaders, quite
shamelessly opportunist) if I thought I could get away with it, but maybe
discretion rules.
