Yes, there is absolutely no comparison to be made. Susan Sontag has
credibility, deservedly, even though her outburst in the _New Yorker_ was
probably misguided (defending and, despite her protests, eulogising the
hijackers' "courage", no matter how right she might have been on the point
of pedantry she made, was not a wise thing to do at that moment in time, was
bound to be misinterpreted, and she should have expected the backlash. In
fact, to be now publishing a celebrity-style interview on how surprised she
is that her tirade was received as it was is somewhat disingenuous, if not
distasteful.)

Yes, refuting the propaganda and misinformation is a worthwhile undertaking,
even though responding to Doug and his lies per se is pointless, as you say.
