NP: Postcard from LA

> What was From Hell like? 

Quite OK. Very stylish. Provides a nice solution to
the Jack-the-Ripper-mystery, and, for a Hollywood
movie, a lot of social, historical, cultural, medical
details and background. All of this is certainly taken
from Moore and Campbell's graphic novel. The great
Robbie Coltrane is in it. Splatter and gore are mostly
left to the imagination, which, in this case, is a
good thing. Unfortunately the amount of spilled blood
etc. increases substantially near the end of the
movie. Special note: Provides interesting and, as far
as I know, accurate details about the drug scene of
the late 19th Century (Absinth, Laudanum, Opium). 

Nevermind that Heather Graham plays the most
virginlike whore since Julia Roberts - this is
Hollywood.
