Doug, just when you were starting to play nice, you have to go and
get all Dougish again:

>but somehow I
>can't imagine him supporting Bush's attack on Afghanistan as
>rj/rjackson/jbor/? and Quail suggest he would. But I guess we each do get
>the Pynchon we want, after all.

Did I suggest he might? Yes. I said it's unlikely, but I could still
envision it. Did I say that's the probable stance he takes?
Absolutely not. In fact, I went to great pains -- only because you
politely but insistently (some might say obsessively) *demanded*
several times that I make a statement of disagreement with jbor -- to
indicate that I felt pretty sure he would oppose the war.

So why, oh why, do you feel the sudden need to disregard everything I
say and distort my words? I believe that you feel by continually
repeating something about your opponent, even if you know that it's
untrue, you will create the illusion that it is true. Call it Truth
by Repetition or just browbeating, it's one of your many rhetorical
tactics that most of the List sees through, and numerous people
deplore.

Let it go, Doug.

And by the way, let go of the whole "rj/rjackson/jbor/?" thing, it's
just childish.

PS: For the record, your quoting me "We are not creating the famine
situation in Afghanistan" was also taken out of context, as I also
went to pains to say that we are certainly causing starvation. I
think it was clear I used the term "famine" to encompass the broader
catastrophe. If you think we caused a FAMINE in general, which has
been going on for years, I really don't know what to think.
