Depends on how you like your hair cut, I think. In my opinion, Pynchon's
allusions are so wonderful because you don't have to get them, and often
miss so many on your first (and second, and third...) read. I certainly
wouldn't have gotten the one mentioned above on my own. And heck, I still
don't really get it.
But, there is just enough of a surface to GR to get by without getting no
slick stuff. M&D even more so. So, I call it a positive. Not that such
binaries make much sense here...
