The Guardian
When the BBC first broadcast its new Afghan soap opera in 1994, the audience
did not even understand the concept of a cliffhanger ending. Now, with 35m
listeners, the Archers-inspired show is so popular that the Taliban have
dropped plans to outlaw radio. Emma Brockes reports.
