Actually, bin Laden "formally" declared war against the United States 
several years ago....

Interesting points, by the way. It's nice seeing the text itself used 
to support a different argument than what Barbara, Doug, and others 
have been making. Though in all honestly, I don't think it's obvious 
that Pynchon would be for or against this. I think a lot of us, me 
included, see our own versions of Pynchon reflected in the writing, 
and draw conclusions based on what we ourselves think is "rational."
