Quail:
>Here I was, mostly *agreeing* with what you are saying, and *still*
>you have to act like an offensive prick.
I guess I've spent too much time reading your posts, your attitude is
rubbing off on me.
Do you mean to say that you're polite only to people who agree with your
pompous bs?
Quail:
> I confess, I have not read everything you forwarded to the List,
If you don't know what I've said, your characterizations of my comments
don't carry much weight, do they.
Quail:
> Because you continually pass along a stream of
>anti-American, anti-Colonial, anti-Western, anti-Imperialism,
>anti-Captitalism, anti-Bush information,
It's a free country, a country that I served when called to do so by the US
Army. Just curious, but are you a veteran of the US Armed Forces, Quail?
Or, are you just one of those slackers who will sit back and let other
Americans bleed and die while you're watching the war on TV?
People like you were proven to be on the wrong side of history back in the
60s when they were telling anti-War critics and protesters to "love it or
leave it." In fact it was the critics who turned out to be right, and had
our leaders who were then prosecuting a criminal war in Vietnam heeded the
criticism, untold misery might have been avoided.
It's a common thing, to criticize something you love and to try to show it
a better way. Perhaps you haven't had the pleasure of being a parent, and
bringing this sort of attitude to the task of raising a child. You
generally have to identify a fault before you can help to correct it.
Quail:
>showing absolutely zero
>concern for any legitimate opposition to these viewpoints
False. I've taken the time to answer most of the legitimate opposition,
including yours; if I've ignored some of yours, that could be because
they're not worthy of response -- especially when it's been obvious that
you haven't read what I've written, or when you have obviously rewritten
and twisted what I've said.
Quail:
>accusing anyone with opposing sentiments of making the attempt to
>stifle dialogue.
Do I really need to go back and quote your posts -- and Terrance's --
telling me and others to stop saying this or that or the other thing? I
don't expect you to remember what I post, but can't you remember from day
to the next what you write on Pynchon-L?
Quail:
>And most importantly, because when it comes to
>anything the West has done, especially America, anything at all, you
>turn your vast intelligence upon it to unravel conspiracies, lies,
>distortions, manipulations, crypto-fascist leanings, hidden agendas,
>and sheer bloodlust.
Take your complaints to the mainstream news organizations that have
reported the news I've passed along -- I've quoted dozens of them, in
addition to many independent and alternative sources. Are you suggesting
that they are spreading propaganda: The New York Times, Washington Post,
Times of London, The Atlantic Monthly, etc. Get a grip, you're hysterical
again.
Quail:
>And yet -- and yet -- when it comes to turning
>the same restless, skeptical intelligence on bin Laden, al-Qaeda,
I'm letting you and the other war cheerleaders handle that job, I'm
providing the part of the story you're leaving out.
Hey, you wouldn't be trying to present a distorted picture of the war,
would you?
Quail:
>No: it is the direct result of the
>climate you have created, all on your own, regarding your *own*
>credibility and credulity.
Actually, seeing as how so many of the active P-list participants seem to
agree with the kind of anti-War, progressive politics Pynchon expresses in
his works, and that it's only basically, you and a very few others who are
gung ho for this war and up in arms about seeing anti-War stuff on
Pynchon-L, you might want to consider the possibility that bringing in your
pro-War, pro-Bush, pro-multinational corporate views is what has polarized
the discussion.
Cordially,
Doug
