The Sept. 11 attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center were the
first airborne attacks on U.S. territory since World War II, and the first
ever on the mainland United States. The horror of war was brought home in
full force. The destruction and loss of lives in New York in a single day is
almost unprecedented in world history. Unfortunately, while the United States
had until then been saved from such horrors at home, they have been an all
too common occurance elsewhere in the world. This page reviews a few of the
most notable historical examples, provides links to some alternative
viewpoints on the events of Sept. 11, and links to organizations that may
provide better alternatives than inflicting the horrors of war upon other
civilian populations in retaliation.
