I don't care if you're posting under different names or not, Doug; you still write better than the whole lot of them (the stone-throwers lot, that is). But I did notice one little thing in that Slothrop post that is rather telling--Slothrop signed his name 'doug'; that's Doug with a lower-case D. I've never seen the real Doug Millison do that before. And if he's at all like me, I doubt he ever would. I've never seen him end a post in 'best' either.
But who cares.

This is all totally ridiculous, but par for the course in an email forum
that was, before I got here almost 5 years ago, already riddled with deceit
and double-dealing (JS's troll activity that generated material for his
book started about this time in '96, didn't it?).

I have no reason to doubt that James is telling the truth about receiving
that email.

Who that email came from, that's another story entirely.

Obviously, it's easy for anybody to set up an anonymous email account and
send email from it -- so simple even a child can do it, as they say, which
would explain why somebody like "Morris"@anonymous.com (lest I be accused
of misleading anybody it's really fqmorris at hotmail.com) can manage it.

Also, quite obviously, and I thank those of you out there who acknowledge
the through-the-looking-glass quality of reality on the P-list according to
Malign (anonymous), rj/rjackson/jbor/? (anonymous), "Morris" (anonymous),
Terrance (his dance card of anonymous email accounts will never be full),
and a couple of others. I obviously have some enemies on the P-list with
long memories, several of whom hide behind anonymous email accounts, and
who have never shown any reluctance to fabricate things I'm supposed to
have said.

Say what you want about me, I've never been shy about stating my views
plainly and in the open on Pynchon-L, signed by my own name.
