No, I was unable to attend IPW2, although I had initially planned to do so.
I was able to lend some very small assistance to one of the presenters,
however, in the form of providing some editorial feedback before the
conference. I also spent quite a bit of time gathering information about
that wild fiasco involving a very prominent organizer of those events, who
later faded from the public scene, but even Pynchon's old Cornell
classmate, a senior editor at The Atlantic Monthly, didn't think the story
would be of much interest, so I dropped that project.

I think I've made it clear that I have no doubt that James Kyllo received
the email he says he received from "slothrop666 at yahoo.com." Who wrote that
email, that's the question. I didn't appreciate his calling me a
hypocrite, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

If you have any doubts about who I am or my bonafides, Heikki, you could
check with your friend at PN, with whom I have communicated for several
years by offlist email, snail mail, and by telephone.
I am known as well -- also by telephone, snail mail, and offlist email --
to one of the coordinators on the American end of IPW2. If this sounds too
cryptic, and if you're interested, send me an email offlist and I'll
explain who I'm talking about.

Cordially,
Doug
