Yes indeed; and also, in German, the "Maus," being a noun, would be
capitalized. I also have a German friend who told me that back in the
sixties, whistling "Maus!" at a passing female was the equivalent of
an American wolf whistle. I have no idea if this is true.

Also, considering the stridency which Doug is now trying to now link
*me* to anti-Semitism, let me be very clear.

I would not support any P-Lister who would use anti-Semitic comments
as a method of abuse. It is abhorrent to me, for many reasons, both
personal, political, and humanitarian. If I thought that jbor was an
anti-Semite, I would call him out upon it. I do not believe that he
is. Therefore I am not calling him out.

However, Doug's Torquemada-like logic is truing to frame an alternate
version of reality. It goes like this:

1. Doug is right, and his views are beyond dispute.
2. Doug distorts events to fit this picture and then presents them as "fact."
3. Doug then points to said "facts," which "show" that jbor is an
anti-Semite, and hounded scholars off the list, and taunted Derek.
4. Therefore, if you refuse to agree with the "facts," you are also
an anti-Semite, or a sympathizer.
5. Once "tainted" thus, Doug is free to heap oodles of other
nastiness upon you.

So by declaring his own subjective reality as an objective reality,
Doug is free to engage in all kinds of sleazy innuendo and character
assassination. he makes the innocent feel the pressure of defending
themselves. He has zero sensitivity for how serious some of us may
take such charges, and how it pains and infuriates us when he flings
them around like muck. This is contemptible behavior. It is
McCarthyism.

Robert, do not feel the pressure to rush out and defend yourself. You
have no need to. It will only give Doug more fuel for the fires of
his personal crusade.
