losses

In retrospect, I agree with you on this one, davemarc. I remember how
traumatic it was for friends of ours who lost homes to the Oakland hills
firestorm 10 years ago. My comments in this instance do sound insensitive
and I apologize if they hurt anybody. I can only imagine what it might feel
like to be a refugee in Afghanistan during the current attacks there,
suffering the losses they have suffered, and certainly New Yorkers will
have similar responses albeit in different circumstances.

I think this statement should be reconsidered. The trauma of losing or
even
nearly losing property, one's home, one's place of business, or having
one's
neighborhood become an unrecognizable toxic waste site, etc., shouldn't
be
shrugged off as something that can merely be compensated for by
insurance or
government bailouts. The trauma is inextricably tied to "people and
feelings." Furthermore, the costs of those payouts adds to the
economic
ripple effect, which can also have a devastating effect on "people and
feelings."
