Here Doug is beginning to sound like another voice out of the past--namely
Walter Winchell, gossip colunmist for the old New York Daily Mirror and the
radio. (Good Evening, Mr. and Mrs. America, from border to border and coast
to coast, and all the ships at sea, let's go to press. Flash . . .) Winchell
was one of Joe McCarthy's admirerers although was in decided wane by the
time McCarthy got going strong. Winchell's forte was hinting at personal
information about people. What certain someone did what to a certain someone
else under the table in a certain New York nightspot?
