In some ways, The Body Artist seems to me an attempt to wiggle out of his
over-popularity--whether it retains quality is of course subjective. I'm
curious how DD will balance fame and the increased spare obscurity of
further work, which is the direction I would suspect he'll be headed

Much of DD's early stuff hasn't dated well--Americana, GJS, End Zone. Like
Dennis Johnson, the man writes beautifully, no doubt. I agree about the
surface pleasure of his writing. Maybe I'm past that surface--and maybe one
more Buddha has been killed--but that's OK.
My view on DeLillo is like my view on dope--though I don't smoke it anymore,
I'd encourage those wishing enlightenment of a sort to try it.

Re: Flag Sunrise--i think of Nicaragua as Teca, Compostela as Honduras--any
idea what Stone based the novel on, or maybe it's just a composite?
