Picked up a copy of Graves' Count Belisarius ( an English Penguin)
at a "flea market"......the first amusing coincidence is that this
book was originally purchased at the Swedish dept. store NK( as
evidenced by the price sticker), where I spent considerable time in
my youth.......
But what is really stunning is the entry after the text of the "novel",
where other works of Graves are discussed.......
"ANTIGUA PENNY, PUCE,
'Lot 50. The rarest and most beautiful stamp in the world. The
Venus de Milo of Philately. The unique Antigua, one penny, purple-
brown, 1866......the Antigua Penny Puce.'
That was how the auctioneer announced it, and the bidding was so
fierce that one man died of the excitement. But who, if anyone, had
the right to auction it? Was it eve, perhpas, stolen? Oliver claimed
it, but his sister Jane thought it was hers, and she wasn't going to
let go of it - at any price. As for bluff, hoax, and sabotage; she was
more than a match for her nasty brother.
Not for sale in the USA " (sorry)
love,
cfa
