various reacions

[cj hurtt]

couldn't take the news anymore and went go get some ice cream last night. the store had only a few people in it and they were all wandering around aimlessly. no one was talking, picking up random products and placing them in their carts. except for one guy who had a cart full of bottled water. it struck me as a kind of american thing...seeking solace in shopping. i was there too. 
outside i ate my ice cream and looked at an eerily airplaneless sky. went home and heard a news story about how some of the victims family had tried to call them via cell phone. the image of the trade center rubble with all those cell phones ringing. chilling.
