Akin to what Freud said in Civilization and its Discontents. He thought that
unqualifyingly loving one's neighbor and especially one's enemy was a bad
idea because it only encouraged the bad guys. Plus there was the always
present need to satisfy the agression instinct.  Likened "the greatest
commandment" to "Credia  quia absurdum." (early idea of what Christianity
was all about and not surprisingly declared heretical though only slightly
so)

One doesn't need to advocate bombing Afghanistan to see that in the present
situation following the Christian ideal will be rewarded in the same place
as the suicide bombers are to receive eternal happiness--in heaven.

So don't feel guilty about hating the bastards.
