The remoteness of Vheissu has nothing on Afghanistan. Any attack on
that C.I.A. foresaken place would be playing right into the hands of
those who would dismantle American Culture as we know it. Hmmm.
The costs of "winning" a war against "the terrorists" would certainly
include many of our freedoms, and probably quite a few of our sons,
daughters, brothers, sisters, etc., etc.
You may say "not winning such a war is tantamount to losing many
of our freedoms, and probably quite a few of our sons, daughters,
brothers, sisters, etc., etc."
To put us in such an untenable situation is the strategy of Osama
bin Laden.
We cannot just sit back and take awful hits from within our own shores,
yet to attempt to win a war in Afghanistan will result in failure, and will
not stop those hits, without changing America into a police state.
With each new act of terror the security apparatus will demand more
command and control, until we are finally stripped of all the freedoms
we take for granted.
Is there some other alternative that bin Laden has not figured on?
