A paranoid looks backwards and sees evidence for plots
and conspiracies that have brought us to where we are. An opportunist, on the other hand, thinks thematically, 
and is forward looking- sees reality in terms of
likelihoods and probabilities- keeps an open mind, in other words, and is able to take advantage of opportunites as they arise.

Both Bin laden and the security apparati of the west (who trained him) are maximum opportunists.
