the War that never ends

For those of you who don't believe that the "first war
of the 21st century" (to use our Pres. Bush's happy
phrase) will benefit weapons makers in particular and
provide an overall stimulus to a sagging U.S. economy,
just watch a few hours of financial market coverage on
the CNBC cable TV network, where the government
spending for this war (and, almost incidentally,
rebuilding lower Manhattan, which I expect was insured
anyway, but what the hell), is talked about in
precisely those terms.
War means work for all, They say.
What drug do you take that permits you experience
President Bush as an intelligent person? And where
can I get me some?
The notion that Bush is surrounded by capable men is
laughable, too, considering that the Gulf War they
cooked up more than anything may be responsible for
the terrorism that we now face; we did a great job of
showing the Middle East how highly we value lives,
freedom, and democracy in that display, didn't we.
Even the U.S. public got a little sick and nervous,
after a while, at the sight of high-tech weapons
slaughtering barefoot soldiers so Saudi and Kuwaiti
oil tycoons -- and their American and European
partners -- could get richer.
Making the world safe for oil to flow to the
industrialized countries of the West so multinational
corporations can get on with the business of making
money from the rape of the earth. Sounds like a novel
I once read, what was it, let me see....

P.S. Peaceniks -- and who would have thought we would
be a despised group once again -- forced the U.S. out
of one criminal war, and perhaps will have a chance to
do so again, if not prevent this one before it
happens.
