Most people point to the terrible odds involved in scoring a direct hit on
one jetliner using another jetliner (the latter of which is traveling at
speeds of well over 800 mph no less). Especially since the hijackers only
had a minimum amount of flight training. It makes more sense for the
hijackers to hit a large target such as the pentagon (the world's largest
office building) and the wtc (NY's tallest office building). The odds of a
direct hit are much better on a large structure than on a relatively slim
target such as airforce 1. Notice that the pentagon did not suffer a direct
hit. If memory serves, the jet they were using missed their target by a few
100 meters and then skidded into the side of it (saving hundreds if not
thousands of lives in the process). Logistically, it wouldn't make much
sense for the terrorists to target airforce 1 (or even the white house or
camp david) because your chances of hitting them (thus inflicting maximum
casualties) is much lower. I would speculate that the fourth plane (the one
that crashed in Pa.) was probably heading for the pentagon as well. Of
course, this isn't inside info of any type (not that we've been given any
inside info at all lately) but rather common sense.
