It all becomes clearer now I know Cherrycoke wears a t-shirt with the
slogan: "Subvert the dominant paradigm". He also has a walk-on part in every
Godard film every made; you might not see him but you know he's there
really.

Re: Ch2. Not there "in the usual way": there is a way in which he was there
that we would not call "usual". In order to make this call we would have to
know what we would call "usual". He links not being there to being told
subsequently. He is there in the form of his absence? If in Ch2 Mason and
Dixon appear as performers, their audience is contained in the performative
act. I'll keep pushing the Dog-as-Cherrycoke line. There is also the
question of Mason's wig: "What are you looking at? It's my Wig, isn't it?" -
"You're not wearing a Wig ...?" - "Just so! you noted that."
