OK, but I think that "it" or the machine that is now running on its own,
the HAL or whatever, is a construction of negative paranoia in Pynchon's
fiction and is satirized.
Positive paranoia is what gives us Christianity and all other religions
in GR. But these religions (Herero, Christian, Etc.) have been distorted
and infected with Death worship. Negative paranoia gives us Blicero and
the Gnostics in love, not with love and therefore there own death, which
is the problem of Arthurian legend, an Irish princess married the king
of Cornwall and had a love affair with his knight Tristan and the rest
is Love in the Western World, but in love with Death and therefore
extinction (this is where Brown and Freud & CO. are useful) The best
example I can give are the rockets (not THE ROCKET), the actual rockets
that are tested and launched. Another example is the ineffectual funding
of Pointy's schemes. These Systems are contrasted, as are statistics,
behaviorism, Freudian, Jungian (THEY are Jungian, BTW), Marxism, white
market Capitalism, with the positive paranoid constructions, or shown to
be perversions of Christianity or other positively paranoid cycles, the
most obvious one being scatter brained mother earth.
I think that the economists in GR, say the german manipulation of
inflation and all that Walter R. (a very astute suggestion from
MalignD, btw, to read a good book on the Weimar Republic) stuff that I
know you are very familiar with, are priests not of Western Christian
progress or control or shaping, but of a new religion that is a
distortion of, perversion of Western Christianity and other religions in
the novel.
