Thanks, Kai. I started the book last evening and will bear the warning in 
mind. What I assume will be the Amsterdam (the city) connection seems 
apparent from page one, with quite a bit of confirmation early on. Maybe I'll 
be wrong. Have to say I wasn't a hundred percent satisfied with _Atonement_'s 
resolution either. As far as that goes.  The book seemed to think it was 
asking some rather "deep" questions. However the answers as explicitly 
ventured didn't really make sense. Assume they weren't intended to.  The REAL 
answers were more subtly offered.  Part of the famous McEwan unease? I'd 
never read any of his considerable output before but perhaps will go on a 
McEwan spree. Like I once did with Iris Murdock. Couldn't put her down. With 
McEwan I will start with Psychopolis.
