          Gretings.Russia celebrates two years of Putin's presidency , which 
brings me to my favourite "Vineland" again. 1984 and 60-s in this book may be 
connected with 2002 and 1990 in Russia. Yes , call it a coincidence , but the 
year of publishing "Vineland" was like 60-s concentrated in one year. 
Everything seemed interesting and people waited for something new.Then came the 
crash of USSR and the decade of strangeness.Now Russia became some kind of 
Thanathoid's land.Ideals of 1990 are dead , a lot of people from generation of 
70-s , who lived in 1990 full of dreams are may be dead (Chechnya instead of 
Vietnam , drugs , gangwars) or fullfilled with them the establishment.Some 
dedicated their life to Sloth.But some still fight intellectual fights (some 
kind of russian karma adjustment , I guess).We have ex-GB agent for president , 
which isn't better , than having ex-actor for president and ex-CIA man for his 
vice.The main source of information is The Tube , of course and many people in 
serious need of visiting Doc Deeply's clinic.But things are not 
hopeless.Nostalgia for 1990 may not help , but TRP's great novel is the best 
way to strenghen the will and to continue living and thinking.
