Yes, it does. (I think I wrote that, didn't I?) My point is that the text
depicts Dixon wondering whether he will "answer 'that of God' in Mason". It
doesn't say "he looks for God in Mason". There's quite a difference, in
fact. In my opinion, at least.

I don't think Dixon would be considering taking a lesson from Fox's Address
to the Ministers, as he isn't a Minister, but it's certainly worth
considering. The point of the maxim from Fox's journal which I cited is that
good Quakers should look for "that of God in every one" they meet. There is
a correlation between "Conviviality" (38.33) and "walk[ing] cheerfully",
surely, and I think it fits much better with Dixon's general demeanour in
the text than an idea of him going about and being "a terror and a dread to
all the adversaries of God". Pynchon often shows Dixon quite consciously
taking responsibility for cheering up Mason, and being jolly and generally
gregarious - the text has made a point of it on a number of occasions thus
far, in fact.

I'm still not sure what your point is on this. You've brought up the passage
at the bottom of page 38 four times now, quoted it inaccurately each time,
and haven't once explained how you see it connecting with Ch. 44.
