FWD: Suicide or Martyr?

Well, okay, one can choose to be a martyr by virtue
of, say, not renouncing one's faith, knuckling under
and marrying that pagan prince after all, et al., but
... but that fatal blow (crucifixion, flaying,
grilling, boiling, whatever) must be delivered by
someone else.  Not quite suicide, but I can see where
one make's one's choices there, so ... still, perhaps
the concept as used by the Palestinians might be
better served by an Arabic/Islamic term with all the
proper overtones.  Perhaps suicide vs. martyrdom is
only an issue in English and other Christianized
European languages, and only in its rhetorical,
political appeal to notions of "justified sacrifice"
vs. "unjustified waste."  Cf. kamikaze?  Interesting
...
