That's what he did. He even took part in the fight against nazis and french 
soldiers or policeman or simply citizens who helped the nazis. I heard long 
ago that he wrote about his years of "resistance" in Watts or Watt, one of 
his first works. I didn't read it actually, but it's certainly good.
