Depends on whether you want metaphysics with your sea voyages.  Probably need
Moby Dick to be comparative with Pynchon. Theorectically the comparative
approach seems like a good idea. Could it work in practice? No idea. The
essays on Melville and Pynchon in
in James Wood's _The Broken Estate_ might be a good jumping off place to
discuss the production of allegory by the two authors.
