Mightn't that absent but feared giant be a projection
of our own appetites for ever bigger, ever greater
amounts of STUFF to consume, until the STUFF and
the market that supports its production and distribution
outstrips any possible proportionality w/r/t our
actual needs, effectively taking on a life of its own?
