Yes, we do, and looking back to those days I think politically this
heaviness has returned, has reached even the USA now:

I was living during the week at Hannover back then, one of the centers of
anti-terrorism, being checked by the police because of my long hair
regularly when I was driving in my first Renault back home to Oldenburg on
Fridays.
Myself looking into the barrel of a gun while my papers are being checked.
