P's novels are "about" a lot of things.  I imagine you focus on the things
of most interest to yourself, that seems to be the case with most Pynchon
readers.

How could Stendhal know this with certainty?

P.S.  I think you misunderstood my comment about your English abilities.
First, it's not possible for anyone to discriminate against anybody else in
this forum -- you have the same access as anybody else.  I do think, from
time to time, you may miss a nuance in English that leads to some
misunderstanding, but if I'm wrong about that, I apologize.  Maybe your
German-speaking P-list comrades can provide some insight into this.
