One the high-low operators here was reading a book and before she
slapped me cross the head with it I managed to read and memorize this:
People go mad in idiosyncratic ways. Perhaps it was not surprising that,
as a meteorologist's daughter, I found myself, in that glorious illusion
of high summer days, gliding, flying, now and again lurching through
cloud banks and ether, past stars, and across fields of ice crystals.
I think the speaker is manic.
Not what causes Mason to hallucinate, but his mind, like Dixon's, is An
Unquiet Mind.
One day, I think, the waves will blow backward and carry me to a new
world where the waves are perfect everyday.
