This is true, but not all unreasonably so.  Sometime an obstinate soul uses 
this tactic, a ploy to avoid the real point.  But sometimes, often on this 
list, the clear point is never first made, and responders are left with 
sounding out their own interpretations of the first guy's post.  This was 
very much the case with your Christianity & Pynchon thread.  I still don't 
know exactly what your point was, but I've no doubt it's a good one.
