Gaddis and Pynchon

I've had the same experience, and hold Pynchon in similar esteem.  In my
case, however, I would say he has no peer among living authors writing in
English.

Since you've been around a long time, Toby,  I guess you know that some
folks on Pyncon-L, for reasons that escape me, get anxious around such
expressions of unadulterated adulation for Pynchon.  I think they think
that goes beyond Pynchon's dictum to stay cool -- I can think of one at
least who should be chiming in about now...
