Yes, not because I've ever had a Mac but recently have been using
FreeBSD, the operating system upon which Mac OS X is based (along with
the addition of the Mach microkernel).

FreeBSD is decended from the Berkeley branch of Unix and works on cheap
old PCs.

OS X 10.2 does sound very good but requires a more expensive computer.

I envy your computer skills. At this point I am stuck
in the category of "end user," also known politely as
the perfect consumer- at least with respect to the mac.
