Pynchon / Faulkner
Pynchon / Roth

Apples / Oranges

The comparison to Nabokov is apt, imo, although
Pynchon appears to be after different game.

Dismissing M&D because it doesn't live up to a
reader's "expectations" says more about that reader
than anything else. Such a reader is sure to be able
to pick out this or that element of the novel in order
to justify her "disappointment."

Reading Pynchon after GR seems to resemble, for some
readers, chasing that first ecstatic peak of many a
youthful adventure, ever-elusive...the lesson may be,
move on.

Westering,
