" has the gall" - your interpretation, and a highly charged one at that,
omitting to interpret the other side of the conversation, too. But life's
not fair, is it.
Malign presents herself as a font of objective wisdom -- that's how it
sounds to me -- and possessing literary taste that can't be challenged; I
merely point out that she's only expressing her opinions. I disagree with
Malign re M&D, agree with you up to a point, like many readers, I have
enjoyed reading M&D, find it fun, alone or in a crowd.
Pynchon and Roth are two very different writers, difficult to compare in
any meaningful way, imo, as are Pynchon and Faulkner. In this respect, I
disagree with Malign. I liked American Pastoral, I liked Vineland, I liked
them each for different reasons, they are very different books that treat
the same period and much of the same terrain.
But, back to my own book, this coffee break is over.
