Well, no.  If he places his fist there (active), then reconsiders (I'm
visualizing this) and doesn't go ahead and punch the slave-driver, Dixon
has moved from an active to a passive mode of behavior. Maybe Dixon is
changing his mind about what to do. Maybe it's impossible to tell precisely
what's going on.
