I was thinking more of Churchill's resolute defiance of Hitler, and of those
in Britain still calling for appeasement, or worse, in 1940-42.

I don't know what Cheney said, but I think that a US declaration of war
against Iraq (or Iran or North Korea) at present would be an extremely
foolish move, and totally unjustifiable. On the other hand, I'd hate to
think what Saddam or Osama might do given access to a nuclear arsenal.
