Subject: MAPS: sex on drugs

Dear friends,

I have been approached with a research proposal by a group who wish to
investigate the subjective and physiological experience of sex in humans
who are under the influence of drugs (e.g. entactogens, hallucinogens,
cannabis, cocaine etc). In response i am trying to catch up on the
literature in order to help formulate a workable study plan and generate a
few ideas. I have to admit that this is an area which i haven't given too
much thought in the past. Whilst i have tried to assess sexual experience
after ecstasy in recent projects, this have been somewhat limited in scope
and part of a wider agenda.

I am aware of the following general writings:

Robert Anton Wilson - sex & drugs & magick
The writings of Charles Tart
Zemishlany's work on ecstasy
Buffer and Moser's MDMA and human sexual function
Work on alcohol and sexual arousal
and of course the recent special edition of the MAPS bulletin.

Searching for more specific articles in literature databases has yielded
many papers describing particular elements of sexual function (mainly in
rats)and the effects of certain prosexual drugs, but almost nothing on the
actual sexual experience. I'm hoping that MAPS Forum readers, with their
wideranging knowledge and training might be able to offer some helpful
pointers (please reply off list). If you are aware of (preferable
scientifc) writings on this subject (i.e. sex on drugs) or if you have a
more general background in this type of research then i would love to hear
from you. This has the potential to be quite a novel and interesting piece
of work.

Harry
